Description
A rough approximation of the island of Great Britain and associated islands in the year 979 AD, shortly after the unification of Sodor and Man under King Godred MacHarold.
So, fun fact. The original books that Thomas the Tank Engine (and actually more recent seasons of the show, good on them!) apparently have a really long history of the Island of Sodor, and one prominent figure in Sudrian history is King Godred, often known as "King Orry" or "Starstrider". Born to Harold, the Danish King of Limerick, he went a-viking and harassed Wales before sailing north and taking control of both Sodor and Man and creating a kingdom that lasted for 10 years of peace, often called Sodor's "Golden Age". He is often credited with establishing Tynwald and the House of Keyes on Man, though this is disputed.
In 982 and 984, Sodor and Man were invaded twice by Earl Sigurd of Orkney to attempt to reclaim the islands, both times defeated by King Godred, but in 989 Sigurd killed Godred and his two elder sons, taking the islands for himself, but his wife, daughter, and youngest son escaped to Islay. Godred's son Harold reclaimed his father's kingdom in 1014, after Sigurd's death.
So...yeah. Pretty in-depth stuff for what was a book series about trains doing things on a small island.
